Unlocking the Halls of Amenti: Ancient Legend or Reality?

Recently, two researchers from Italy carried out SAR Tomography scans of the Khafre pyramid and released data which appeared to show not only huge shafts extending approximately 650 metres down, but also two chambers measuring about 80 by 80 metres. The internet exploded with curiosity and speculation, with many users comparing these deeply hidden chambers to a concept from ancient mythology.

Deep beneath the sands of Egypt, beyond the physical world and into the realms of myth, lies one of the most enigmatic and esoteric legends tied to the Great Pyramid: the Halls of Amenti. They may be unfamiliar to many people, yet they are a treasure trove of inspiration for science fiction writers drawn to ancient mysteries, parallel dimensions, and cosmic consciousness. In this series of articles, I explore both documented writings and speculation connected to these icons of Egyptian history, and later uncover the inspiration behind the machine in the Seven Point Eight series.

While Herodotus, the ancient Greek historian often called the “Father of History,” did not specifically mention a “Hall of Records” beneath the Great Pyramid in his writings, in Histories (Book II), he discusses Egypt extensively, Herodotus describes the pyramids, including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, and mentions underground chambers. He reports Egyptian priests said that King Khufu built subterranean chambers as part of his tomb complex, supposedly intended for burial or ceremonial use. However, he doesn’t describe a “Hall of Records” in the metaphysical or esoteric sense often associated with modern mystical or New Age interpretations.

The concept of a Hall of Records, a secret chamber beneath the Sphinx or pyramids that holds the lost knowledge of ancient civilizations (e.g., Atlantis), does not come from Herodotus or any classical source. Instead, it gained popularity in the 20th century through Edgar Cayce, the American mystic, who claimed in trance readings that a Hall of Records lies beneath the Sphinx, containing Atlantean knowledge. New Age and esoteric movements expanded on the idea of the pyramids as storage vaults for universal or interstellar knowledge.

The earliest and most detailed references to the Halls of Amenti actually come from the Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean, a mystical text attributed to the Egyptian god Thoth, also known as Hermes Trismegistus in Greco-Egyptian mythology. These tablets, allegedly translated and published by Maurice Doreal in the 1920s, describe Thoth as an Atlantean priest-king who lived for thousands of years and preserved the knowledge of advanced civilizations. He supposedly built the Great Pyramid not as a tomb, but as a portal to the Halls, or a space between worlds. Thoth also appears in Seven Point Eight: Beyond as a wise character who lives on another world beyond our solar system.

According to the texts, the Halls of Amenti are an interdimensional realm beneath Earth, where the “Lords of Amenti,” powerful, cosmic beings, guide the evolution of human souls. The Halls are described as a place of healing, learning, and regeneration, where souls return between incarnations and where consciousness is expanded beyond time and space. Thoth claims he would enter these Halls to rejuvenate his body and commune with the Lords who maintain the balance of the universe.

The nature and capabilities of consciousness form the backbone of the Seven Point Eight series, onto which human drama, desire for power, conspiracy and human potential weaves through the entire story arc. Were the pyramids designed not just as burial monuments, but as energy devices or consciousness amplifiers? Could the legends of Thoth hint at extraterrestrial visitors or forgotten technologies hidden beneath the Earth?

The blend of myth, metaphysics, and high-concept science in the Amenti lore is a launchpad for the Seven Point Eight series of books. The themes of immortality, reincarnation, and universal law embedded in the Amenti myth resonate with core questions in science fiction too: what is the nature of consciousness? Can humanity ascend to higher dimensions? What ancient truths remain buried, waiting to be decoded?

The first book in the series, Seven Point Eight: Beyond, is currently available to read on Kindle Unlimited. Check it out HERE.

In the next article of this pyramid series, I’m going to look at exciting research exploring some rather unusual properties of the pyramids. Stay tuned!
