Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me

In my last newsletter, I shared the Polish origin of my surname and that I met my husband on a train. As promised, here are five more things you didn’t know about me.

1. Travels

I’ve visited 24 countries so far, although it never feels like enough and I aim for two new ones each year. While I’ve visited numerous European countries, my favourites come from a different region. Turkey is a contender for first place, mainly due to the beautiful landscapes of Oludeniz and Cappadocia and the historical site of Ephesus, but also for the culture, food, and hospitality of the people. Jordan is another favourite, where my husband and I visited the iconic Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea. The toughest places were Egypt, despite its fantastic heritage, and Saudi Arabia, due to the incredibly hot climate. Still, it’s hard to choose my absolute favourite.

2. Silk Road

I’m currently based in Uzbekistan, which is in Central Asia, and it’s not the third world country people imagine. If anything, it’s modern, liveable, and the country itself has a fantastic heritage due to the famous Silk Road. I live in the capital, Tashkent, with my husband and it’s our second time here. We plan on staying another year, particularly as there are still many places to explore in the neighbouring stans.

3. Passion

As a child, my special interest was space and I was also obsessed with Star Wars (the original trilogy). I remember owning an encyclopaedia about space and I must have read it multiple times. That passion never died, although since then, I’ve become more interested in parallel dimensions and metaphysical concepts.

4. Kids

I have two adult children. The oldest is my daughter, who’s a personal trainer and digital nomad now residing in Portugal, while the younger is my son and he’s a data scientist based in London. He’s due to get married next year!

5. A Dream

I’d love to buy a forever home in Italy or a similar place, where we can have many cats, I can write books, and even teach English (which is my primary job at the moment). I see our forever home as a themed house, either based around cats or international travel, where each room features a specific country or culture.

Which of these amazing facts is the most surprising for you?
And which theme should we choose for our forever home?
